FAQ's
We recommend that you contact an Authorized Service Center like Rafiq Sons. A watch is a very sensitive precision instrument which requires servicing by highly trained and skilled technicians using special tools.
If you have an old watch to repair, please contact an Authorized Service Center like Rafiq Sons. Please note that for older timepieces, the availability of spare parts may be limited. In some cases, essential components may no longer be in production by the company, which can prevent from carrying out the necessary repairs. If this occurs, your watch shall be returned without servicing. However, rest assured that if the required parts are available, your watch shall be completely restored to its optimal working condition.
We recommend that you contact an Authorized Service Center like Rafiq Sons to get your watch strap adjusted or consult the staff at the Rafiq Sons outlet.
To prevent potential damage caused by battery leakage, it is strongly recommended to replace the battery promptly once it has been depleted. For this, we suggest visiting an Authorized Service Center such as Rafiq Sons, where genuine Seiko batteries can be used for replacement. Please be aware that the battery installed at the time of purchase is fitted at the factory for testing purposes—its primary role is to confirm the watch’s functionality and performance. As such, this ‘monitor battery’ may not last for the full expected battery lifespan.
Spare parts are not supplied directly to individuals by the company in any region globally. For any replacement needs, we recommend reaching out to an Authorized Service Center such as Rafiq Sons, where the required watch parts can be professionally installed.
The accuracy of a watch is determined by the specific movement it contains. For details on the expected accuracy range, please consult the instruction manual provided with your watch. If you notice any irregularities or have concerns regarding timekeeping, we suggest visiting an Authorized Service Center such as Rafiq Sons for a thorough inspection.
Mechanical watches operate through a mainspring-driven mechanism and are particularly sensitive to environmental conditions and how they are worn. These factors can affect their timekeeping precision. Accuracy in such watches can fluctuate slightly from day to day based on variables like how tightly the mainspring is wound, arm movements, ambient temperature, and the watch’s resting position. Rather than assessing precision on a daily basis, it’s typically evaluated as a “mean daily rate” averaged over a span of several days—usually a week to ten days—during actual use. This average provides a more accurate reflection of the watch’s performance, which is why mechanical watch accuracy is commonly described using the term “mean daily rate.”
Mechanical watches rely on energy produced by the unwinding of a mainspring, transmitted through intricate metal components that regulate timekeeping. These delicate parts can be easily impacted by external factors like changes in temperature, exposure to gravity, and physical shocks. Additionally, user habits—such as how consistently the watch is worn, the degree of wrist movement, and the winding condition of the mainspring—also contribute to
Temperature
Avoid exposing your watch to extreme temperatures—specifically, below 5°C or above 35°C. Mechanical watch components are made of metal, which expands and contracts with temperature fluctuations, impacting timekeeping accuracy. Typically, watches tend to lose time in high temperatures and gain time in colder environments.
Magnetism
Keep your watch away from sources of magnetic fields. Exposure to magnetism can interfere with the watch’s movement, causing it to run fast or slow. Prolonged contact with magnetic objects—such as smartphones (especially their speakers), televisions, tablets, handbag clasps, magnetic tablet covers, hairdryers, and electric razors—should be avoided. Notably, even after being removed from a magnetic source, a mechanical watch may remain magnetized and continue to display inaccurate timekeeping.
Shock
Strong physical impacts can disturb the delicate inner mechanisms of your watch. To protect its accuracy, it’s advisable to remove the watch before participating in sports or activities involving heavy wrist movement or collisions. Dropping the watch may also result in internal damage that affects its performance.
Position
When not worn, the position in which a mechanical watch is stored can influence its accuracy. Time loss or gain may vary depending on whether the watch is laid flat face-up, face-down, or resting on its side (at the 12:00, 3:00, 6:00, or 9:00 positions). These variations occur due to gravitational effects on the movement inside the watch. You can test different resting positions over a period of 7 to 8 hours to determine which one minimizes time deviation. Storing the watch in an optimal position can help offset any inaccuracies that occur during wear.
Daily Winding Enhances Accuracy
For better timekeeping performance, it’s advisable to wind your mechanical watch daily at a consistent time, even if it features a self-winding (automatic) mechanism.
Wind Before Wearing
To ensure optimal function, the mainspring must deliver adequate energy to the watch movement. A fully wound watch tends to maintain more consistent accuracy. When the mainspring begins to unwind and energy levels drop, the watch becomes more vulnerable to external influences such as temperature and movement.
Fully Wound for Stable Performance
Operating the watch without a fully wound mainspring may lead to time deviations. To reduce the likelihood of gain or loss, it is best to wear the watch for at least eight hours a day, which helps maintain a sufficient power reserve and promotes stable accuracy.
It is recommended to bring your watch to the Rafiq Sons Service Center approximately every three years for a thorough inspection, cleaning, and lubrication of internal components as needed. For better timekeeping performance, it’s advisable to wind your mechanical watch daily at a consistent time, even if it features a self-winding (automatic) mechanism.

Seiko timepieces are engineered for long-term accuracy and dependable performance. However, like all precision instruments, they require regular maintenance to continue functioning at their best. While the exact frequency of servicing can vary based on climate and how the watch is used, we generally advise a full service every three years at an Authorized Service Center such as Rafiq Sons. Mechanical movements rely on proper lubrication to reduce wear and tear on their components. Over time, however, lubricants degrade, which may lead to issues like time loss or complete stoppage. During a full service, technicians will disassemble and thoroughly clean the movement, inspect its condition, remove any accumulated dirt or moisture, and replace worn parts and gaskets with authentic Seiko components. Fresh lubrication will be applied to all necessary parts, and the watch’s water resistance will be tested and restored where needed. Routine servicing also plays a vital role in preserving the water resistance of your watch. This feature is not permanent, as gaskets can deteriorate and parts may deform due to accidental impacts. For optimal protection, gasket replacement is recommended, especially during battery changes.
Exposure to magnetic fields can disrupt a watch’s performance, often causing it to gain or lose time. In today’s environment, we are constantly surrounded by magnetic sources, from smartphones and tablets to household appliances. Prolonged proximity to these items can interfere with a watch’s internal components.
Common magnetic sources include:
- Smartphone and mobile phone speakers
- Televisions
- Computer and tablet speakers
- Magnetic clasps on handbags
- Magnetic covers on tablets
- Hair dryers
- Electric razors
To reduce the risk of magnetic interference, keep your watch at least 5 cm away from these objects. If you suspect your watch has been affected, visit an Authorized Service Center like Rafiq Sons to have it demagnetized.
Analog Quartz Watches
Analog quartz watches rely on magnetic energy to drive tiny step motors that move the rotors. These motors are delicate and highly sensitive to external magnetic fields. When exposed, the rotor’s movement may be disrupted, leading the watch to stop or display incorrect time.
While any residual magnetism inside the watch doesn’t continue to affect its timekeeping, it’s essential to keep it at a safe distance (more than 5 cm) from magnetic items and manually reset the time. If exposed to a strong magnetic field, demagnetization is recommended.
Spring Drive Watches
Spring Drive watches operate through energy generated by a mainspring, with precision regulated by an electronic mechanism. If the rotor within this regulator becomes magnetized, the watch may begin to gain or lose time, affecting its accuracy.
Although any lingering magnetism won’t continue to impact the watch, it’s advisable to keep it away from strong magnetic fields and reset the time if needed. Demagnetization should be carried out if the watch has been exposed to a high magnetic force.
Mechanical Watches
Mechanical movements are particularly vulnerable to magnetism. Even after being moved away from a magnetic source, the watch may remain magnetized. If the hairspring becomes magnetized, the balance wheel’s oscillation can become erratic, leading to time loss or gain.
To restore accurate performance, it is essential to have the watch demagnetized by a professional.
Digital Quartz Watches
Digital quartz watches are largely unaffected by magnetic fields since they do not use motors in their operation.

- Exceptional Accuracy
At the heart of Spring Drive is the revolutionary Tri-synchro Regulator, which harmonizes and manages the mechanical, electrical, and electromagnetic energy produced by the mainspring. By eliminating the traditional escapement and introducing a one-directional motion system, the mechanism becomes inherently more stable, resilient, and precise—achieving accuracy within just 1 second per day. - Unique Glide-Motion
Thanks to its escapement-free movement, Spring Drive offers a completely smooth, continuous motion. The hands move in a silent, uninterrupted glide that captures the natural, flowing essence of time, making it the only watch in the world to visually express time in this seamless way. - Extended Power Reserve
Seiko’s specially developed mainspring, crafted from a proprietary alloy, delivers energy with remarkable consistency and longevity. This in-house material not only generates more power but is also highly resistant to heat and corrosion. As a result, Spring Drive offers an impressive 72-hour power reserve, even with the chronograph running continuously. - Enhanced Winding Efficiency
Originally introduced by Seiko in 1959, the innovative Magic Lever revolutionized automatic winding by capturing energy from rotor movement in both directions. Now reengineered and mounted directly onto the rotor shaft, the latest version of the Magic Lever ensures even more efficient energy transfer, allowing Spring Drive to wind faster and operate more effectively than ever before.
A: Source of Energy: Spring Drive is powered solely by a mainspring, just like traditional mechanical watches.
Transmission of Power: The energy stored in the mainspring is transferred through a gear train, which drives both the hands and the Tri-synchro Regulator.
Regulation Mechanism: The Tri-synchro Regulator precisely controls the speed of the glide wheel and the movement of the hands through electromagnetic braking, delivering extraordinary accuracy.
- The Tri-synchro Regulator: A breakthrough developed exclusively by Seiko, the Tri-synchro Regulator manages three types of energy:
- Mechanical energy from the mainspring is regulated.
- A small portion of this energy is converted into electricity to power a quartz crystal.
- It creates a magnetic force to control the speed of the glide wheel.
These three synchronized energy systems give the regulator its name, “Tri-synchro.”
- The Mainspring: Seiko engineered a high-performance mainspring from a proprietary alloy called SPRON 510. This unique material offers:
- Exceptional elasticity
- Greater power delivery
- Improved accuracy and longer power reserve
- The Magic Lever: First introduced by Seiko in 1959, the Magic Lever is an efficient winding system. In Spring Drive, it has been redesigned and connected directly to the rotor shaft, significantly improving winding efficiency and shortening the time needed to reach full power, maximizing the power reserve.
The Spring Drive Chronograph is the perfect expression of precision timekeeping. Unlike conventional chronographs that round off measurements, it delivers exact elapsed time, thanks to Spring Drive’s one-second-per-day accuracy.
- Measures up to 12 hours continuously
- Powered by a vertical clutch and column wheel for smooth, precise operation
- Assembled by hand from 416 parts, including 50 jewels, 140 lubrication points, and 5 specialized lubricants
- Offers a 72-hour power reserve, even when the chronograph is in active use
- Glide Motion Second Hand glides smoothly and continuously, stopping precisely at the moment the button is pressed, not at the nearest tick. It is the only chronograph capable of accurately capturing the natural, continuous flow of time.

This design guarantees precise control over start/stop timing, making every measurement exact.
Kinetic is a groundbreaking watch technology developed by Seiko, featuring an internal power generation system that harnesses the motion of the wearer’s wrist. This movement generates electricity, which is then stored in a rechargeable battery, a more durable and eco-friendlier alternative to conventional quartz watch batteries, requiring far less frequent replacement.
Kinetic: It is a Technological Milestone, much like mechanical and quartz, Kinetic is a distinct platform of watchmaking innovation. Over the last two decades, Seiko has developed a wide range of Kinetic movements, each offering unique features and advancements. The concept debuted in 1986 at the Basel Fair, with Seiko unveiling the first Kinetic prototype under the trial name “AGM.” It was the world’s first watch capable of converting kinetic energy into electrical power, a pioneering step that would redefine the future of watch technology. By 1988, the first commercially available model was launched under the name AGS (Automatic Generating System), marking the beginning of a new era in horology. Since then, over eight million Kinetic watches have been sold globally (as of 2007), making Kinetic synonymous with sustainability, high performance, and long-term convenience.
1998 – Kinetic Auto Relay: Introduced an impressive “at-rest” operating period of up to 4 years, allowing the watch to conserve energy when not in use.
Please note that a watch’s water resistance is not permanently guaranteed. Over time, the gaskets may deteriorate and components can become deformed due to impact, which can compromise water resistance. To help maintain your watch’s resistance to water for as long as possible, please observe the following care guidelines:
- Wipe the watch clean after wearing, using a soft dry cloth to remove any moisture, sweat, or dirt. This helps preserve the condition of the case back, gaskets, and band.
- If you’ve used your watch in seawater, rinse it thoroughly in fresh water, then dry it gently with a soft cloth.
- Avoid washing the watch while the crown is pulled out.
- Do not operate the crown or press any buttons when the watch is wet, as this may allow water to enter the case.
- Schedule a regular maintenance check to verify the watch’s water resistance and ensure all seals and parts remain functional.
LumiBrite is Seiko’s advanced luminous material that outshines and outlasts traditional luminous paints. It offers enhanced brightness and extended afterglow while being entirely free of radioactive substances, making it safe for both users and the environment. Historically, luminous paints relied on radioactive elements to emit light. With technological progress, these were replaced by fluorescent luminous paints, which absorb light from their surroundings and emit it in the dark. While safer, these fluorescent materials had a short-lived glow that faded quickly once the stored energy was depleted. LumiBrite represents a significant leap forward. It absorbs light more efficiently and delivers a brighter, longer-lasting glow in the dark. True to its name, LumiBrite illuminates instantly in low light and fades slowly over time. As it contains no radioactive elements, it combines outstanding performance with complete safety, making it the perfect evolution of earlier luminous technologies.
Extended Glow Duration
After just 10 minutes of exposure to sunlight or artificial light (at least 500 lux), LumiBrite achieves full brightness. In complete darkness, it continues to glow for approximately 3 to 5 hours—over ten times longer than traditional luminous paints.
Enhanced Brightness
LumiBrite delivers a significantly stronger glow compared to conventional fluorescent or radioactive luminous materials, making it much more visible in the dark.
Safe and Environmentally Friendly
Completely free from radioactive elements, LumiBrite poses no health or environmental risks. With no legal restrictions on its use, it can be applied liberally—even across the entire watch dial.
Long-Lasting Performance
Made from inorganic materials, LumiBrite maintains its quality and performance over time, offering virtually permanent luminosity without degradation.
Impact and Shock
- Avoid dropping your watch or subjecting it to strong impacts, as it is a delicate precision instrument.
Water Resistance
- Never immerse a water-resistant watch in water if the crown is pulled out.
- Do not operate or pull out the crown when the watch is wet.
- Avoid exposing the watch directly to high-pressure water, such as from a faucet, even if it’s water-resistant. This could allow moisture to seep inside.
- Water resistance can diminish over time due to aging gaskets or impact-related deformation. It’s advisable to have your watch’s water resistance checked regularly.
- After wearing your watch, especially in humid or wet conditions, gently wipe it with a soft, dry cloth to help maintain water resistance.
Swimming in the Sea
- After exposure to seawater, rinse your watch in fresh water and dry it with a soft cloth.
- Never wash a water-resistant watch with the crown pulled out.
- Instead of placing it under running water, rinse it in a container of still water.
Bathing or Sauna Use
- Avoid wearing your watch in a bath or sauna. Heat, steam, soap, and hot spring minerals can deteriorate the watch’s water resistance.
Temperature Extremes
- Extreme heat, cold, or sudden temperature changes may affect your watch’s performance.
- Since each watch caliber has a different recommended temperature range, consult the instruction manual for specific guidance.
Exposure to Chemicals
- Avoid cleaning your watch with solvents or harsh chemicals such as benzine, thinner, or bleach. These substances can damage the case, band, or strap and may cause discoloration.
Crown Maintenance
- Periodically turn the crown to prevent corrosion and keep the gasket flexible.
- For screw-down crowns, ensure it is fully secured to prevent moisture from entering the watch.
Cleaning Your Watch
- After daily wear, especially in hot or humid environments, clean the watch with a soft cloth to help maintain the durability of its case, gaskets, and band.
Just like with eyeglass frames or fashion accessories, skin irritation can occur when metal ions from a watch’s components are released through perspiration. This condition, known as allergic contact dermatitis, is typically triggered by metals such as nickel, cobalt, or chrome. These elements can be present not only in metal bands but also in leather straps (as chrome is commonly used in the tanning process).
- If you notice any skin irritation or allergic symptoms, stop wearing the watch immediately and consult a dermatologist. With your doctor’s guidance, identify the specific metal responsible for the reaction, and try to avoid watches or products that contain it.
- For individuals with a known nickel allergy or heightened sensitivity to stainless steel, a titanium watch is a recommended alternative. To explore Seiko watches made from titanium, please contact an Authorized Service Center like Rafiq Sons.
Store your watch in a clean, dry environment where temperature and humidity are stable, not excessively hot, cold, or damp. If you won’t be wearing it for an extended period, keep it in a well-ventilated area and place it in the original box or a similar protective case. Avoid placing your watch near magnetic sources or electronic devices like mobile phones, as this can affect its performance.
A solar watch operates by converting light into electrical energy. Light passes through the dial to a solar cell beneath, which transforms it into energy and stores it in a rechargeable battery. This battery powers the watch and, unlike disposable dry or button batteries, it is environmentally friendly and designed for long-term use through repeated charging and discharging. For the watch to function properly, it requires adequate exposure to strong light for a sufficient duration. If either the light intensity or exposure time is insufficient, the battery may not charge fully.
Sufficient strength of light and amount of time are necessary in order to recharge sufficiently. In case the strength of light and amount of time are not enough, there is a possibility of insufficient recharging. A Solar Watch is a watch which moves by converting light energy into electronic energy. Light energy received by a solar cell (solar cell unit under the dial) is converted into electronic energy. The energy is stored in the rechargeable battery and is used to move the watch. Unlike a disposable battery such as dry battery and button battery, a rechargeable battery is an eco-friendly battery. It can be used for a long period of time by recharging and discharging the energy repeatedly.
To recharge a solar watch effectively, it needs exposure to light. Since indoor lighting is generally weaker than sunlight, charging indoors will take longer. For optimal results, place the watch near a window with the dial facing the sun to absorb natural sunlight.
While recharging, ensure the watch does not become overheated from prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
A solar watch requires light to recharge and cannot generate power in the dark. The battery may run down and the watch may stop if it is:
- Covered by clothing, such as being hidden under a sleeve.
- Regularly used or stored in places where it has limited or no exposure to light for extended periods.
Wearing the watch alone does not provide sufficient light for recharging. To maintain power, place the watch near a window or in direct sunlight whenever it’s not being worn.
Lux (lx) is a unit used to measure illuminance, indicating how much light is cast on a surface. One lux equals one lumen (the amount of visible light) per square meter, expressed as 1 lx = 1 lm/m².
Here are typical lux values for different light sources:
- Direct sunlight on a clear summer day: approx. 100,000 lx
- Cloudy daylight: approx. 10,000 lx
- 5 cm from a 30W fluorescent lamp: approx. 10,000 lx
- 20 cm from a 30W fluorescent lamp: approx. 3,000 lx
- Typical office lighting: approx. 700 lx
Over time, the rechargeable battery in your solar watch may gradually lose efficiency due to factors like extended use or environmental conditions. Additionally, mechanical components may wear down, collect dust or sweat, or experience lubrication loss—all of which can affect charging performance and overall functionality.
To maintain your solar watch in optimal condition, we recommend a complete service (overhaul) every 3 to 4 years. An overhaul is similar to a routine health check, it involves inspecting the internal components, ensuring proper lubrication, checking for rust, tightening screws, and cleaning out any accumulated dirt or sweat. Any worn parts and gaskets are also replaced, helping to restore the watch’s performance and water resistance to like-new condition. For overhaul services, please contact your nearest Rafiq Sons Customer Service Center.
The rechargeable battery may simply be out of charge. Try placing the watch in sunlight to recharge it. If you notice the second-hand ticking in 2-second steps, it means the battery level is critically low. In this condition, certain features, such as the calendar, may temporarily stop functioning depending on the watch model. It’s best to recharge the watch before it comes to a complete stop.
If your watch includes a power save function, it may have entered “Power Save 1” mode after being in low light conditions for 72 hours. In this mode, the second-hand halts at the 15-second position, and the hour and minute hands also stop. When the watch is exposed to sufficient light for at least five seconds, it will automatically resume the correct time, with the second hand moving quickly to catch up.
If your watch features a power save function, it may have gone into “Power Save 2” mode due to a prolonged lack of sufficient charging. In this mode, all hands stop, and the second hand remains at the 45-second mark. Recharge the watch thoroughly, and if needed, reset the time once it becomes functional again.
A complete stop usually means the rechargeable battery is fully depleted. In this case, place the watch by a window and expose it to direct sunlight for 5 to 6 hours before use. If you try to use the watch before it has recharged enough, it may stop again. Be careful not to overheat the watch during recharging.
If the watch does not restart after 5 to 6 hours in sunlight, it may require servicing. Please contact your nearest Rafiq Sons customer service center to have the watch inspected or overhauled.
Make it a habit to recharge your watch regularly. Ideally, place it by a window in direct sunlight for 5 to 6 hours once every month with the dial facing the sun. When you’re not wearing it, keep it in a well-lit area to maintain its charge. This is especially important in colder seasons like autumn and winter when sunlight is weaker and the watch is often covered by long sleeves. Avoid placing the watch on a car dashboard or other areas that may become excessively hot during sunlight exposure, as this could damage internal parts or affect performance. Also, prolonged exposure may cause leather or urethane straps to fade or deteriorate. Use sunlight only for periodic recharging and avoid leaving the watch exposed longer than necessary.
A GPS Solar Watch receives signals from GPS satellites to automatically adjust the time and date according to atomic clock accuracy. It also determines your current time zone when you travel or when you manually adjust the time. Since GPS signal reception requires a significant amount of energy, make sure the watch is well-charged by exposing it to light so the indicator hand points to “middle” or “full.” If the charging level is “low,” the watch will not initiate GPS signal reception, even manually. GPS reception may not work in certain environments due to signal obstructions. Please refer to your instruction manual for more details on suitable reception locations.
Over the centuries, watchmakers have continuously pursued greater precision and user convenience. However, major breakthroughs are rare. Seiko’s GPS Solar Watch marks a true leap forward, establishing new standards in accuracy, ease of use, and global functionality. It represents one of the most significant advancements in modern watchmaking.
Time zone adjustment
Unlike radio-controlled watches that function in limited regions, GPS Solar Watches identify all globally recognized time zones. No matter where you are—on a mountain, at sea, or in a remote desert—the watch displays the correct local time.
Automatic time syncing
When the dial is exposed to strong light, the watch automatically receives GPS signals to adjust the time. If covered by a sleeve and unable to receive enough light, the watch recalls the last successful manual or time zone adjustment and attempts to update the time at that same hour.
Advanced GPS signal reception
Seiko’s exclusive ring antenna, located beneath the dial ring, offers excellent reception capabilities. This design ensures reliable signal reception regardless of the watch’s orientation or how it’s worn.
In-flight mode
For air travel, the watch includes an in-flight mode to prevent interference with aircraft electronics. In this mode, GPS signal reception is temporarily disabled while you’re onboard.
